King of the Bush
Back home in Melbourne there are many native animals that inhabit the local paddocks (fields). Among the birds there is one that sometimes sounds as if it were IN the house. Yep, it’s the kookaburra!:

Kookaburra sits in the old gum tree.
Mighty mighty king of the bush is he.
Laugh kookaburra laugh,
How gay your life must be.
I’ll look forward to hearing the laughter of the kookaburra once more in a couple of weeks. You’ve just got to hear it to believe it! Sometimes it’s call was used in old Tarzan movies because of it’s exotic and eerie nature.
Update: 19 Sept. Thanks to (the other) Cameron, there’s a link to what the kookaburra sounds like. So go here to have a listen!
And, there! I’ve now got something more exotic on this blog!
Well, since my sister and nephew are visiting, I’m gonna get going for now…enjoy the nature and wildlife wherever you are…. hey, no matter where you are, it’s gotta be exotic to someone!

Hi Amy! I love your kooka picture (not to mention all the other cool artwork you’ve been doing lately) Very happy to hear you are feeling better and will be back in the land of Oz soon.
I have a couple of examples of the kookaburra’s laugh on one of my other sites if anyone wants to hear it (along with a few other Australian birds) so feel free to post this link if you want:
