Peztastic!

Noticing how late it was getting I said to Cam, “I haven’t posted an entry yet! Hrmm..don’t know what to post, so I’ll just post a bunch of cool links tonight”. When I typed a search for “Cool art blogs” to get some new sites (not that we need any with all the cool ones doing the Artist’s Way), I noticed about 6 links down, “9 Moons Ago” among some others. Then I thought, “Wow. Hey yeah..if I’m an art blog, where’s my ART?!” So I decided to draw something quick and dirty. Cam sugggested a couple of pez dispensers as subject matter, and I thought that would be cool. I sketched them, scanned the drawing, and colored them in photoshop. Love how it turned out! I’ve got to do some more of this kind of thing! I bring you Luke Pezwalker and Batpez:

The Pez dispensers got me thinking about childhood things, and some of the tasks this week focus on childhood memories and experiences. I even had a dream last night in which I was a child, back in my old neighborhood with friends I haven’t seen in years..and I mean YEARS! But it’s cool to be an adult and still have that sense of play that you had as a child. I sent Cam those Pez dispensers along with other fun toys one year; silly putty, a dart gun, a coloring book and sparkle crayons. I sent another friend a clear purple “toy box” with play-doh, bubbles and a few other fun things. She said it was one of the best gifts she’s ever gotten in the mail. I think for my Artist Date this week I’m going to buy myself a toy! Something small, but fun. Still thinking of the favorite childhood food I want to have/make this week. Yep, I think I’m in the groove of things. Next thing on my list is to take a look at my habits! That’s a good one.

love the pez!! i put santa pez dispensers on a few christmas gifts this year. much fun. and toys are the best. if you have some equivalent of a dollar store near you, those are always a good place to buy silly stuff…once, many years ago, i went in a dollar store and came out with a rubber chicken and a pair of yellow, rediculously over-sized sunglasses. total fun. :-)

Love the pez drawing. The shadows you gave them are wonderful. I feel like they are ready to pop out of the computer screen to me.

I LOVE your drawing of the pez dispensers. On my second artist date I took myself to a candy store and went wild. Your drawing is very cool…superheroes and candy what better childhood memories are there?

    Thanks, everyone!

Kat, thanks for the idea. They have $2 stores here, because the value of the dollar is a little different. Rubber chickens are hilarious! I always think of Garfield because he used one to smack Jon. Hehe.

    Super drawing!

Love Pez candies. Something about those tiny pieces of sugar is just delightful. And I have yet to let one melt in my mouth all the way through. I’m just too impatient and have to bite! LOL

    Thanks for the childhood memory!

*lives for Pez* Excellent stuff Ames!!! The one on the left looks like Stewart Copeland!!! I want a Millsy one with the stringy hair!!! I wrote to Pez about a year ago about their ingredients or something (looooong story) and they were so sweet-being a sweet company- and they sent me so many packets of Pez to say thanks for taking an interest!!! I still haven’t had the time to write back and say thanks though :o(

    Paint Chip,
Thanks! He he..yep..I bite them too. I also am too impatient to save any..usually eat them one after the other!

    Sarah,
That’s funny! Only you! Really cool though, that they sent you lots of packets!
