This latest theme is charming in its simplicity of line, and sings of Springtime with the addition of a couple of perching robins. It features grey-blue & white tones and a subtle deeper blue floral background.
Once again it’s based on Kubrick (the default WordPress theme), so it’s compatible with versions 1.5, 2.0 and 2.1 of that software.

Hello,
Chirp is a very nice looking theme. Congratulations. I like it very much.
I first downloaded it from http://themes.wordpress.net/download.php?theme=2318 and tried it out. But unfortunately it didn’t validate as proper XHTML. Then I used the link on this page to download it from here. But that ZIP-file seems to be corrupt. I also noticed that there is a difference in the size of the two mentioned ZIP-files.
The one I downloaded from http://themes.wordpress.net/download.php?theme=2318 has got 178 kb whereas the one you offer on this site has got 219 kb.
Would you please check this out and provide a ZIP-file that can get unpacked. Thank you very much.
Regards
Axel

I think I forgot the “alt” tags for the sidebar images. I think that would be the only reason why it wouldn’t validate (unless the Kubrick code itself doesn’t validate, but I would think it would)
I’m not sure why you’d have download problems as the zip file looks perfectly fine — and it is supposed to be 178 kb by the way, not 219 kb. In fact I can’t even see why or how it would be 219 kb?
Sorry I can’t be of more help but I’m unable to replicate your problem.

I think it’s the placement of your Kontera code that’s causing the problem. The code is telling the browser to render the layout the wrong way on the “single.php” script page. For instance what would be the benefit of having the filter code before the navigation? It should probably be after. If it’s meant to be before then you would at least want to have some closing < /span> or < /div> tags. In fact it might just be that there is not enough closing tags for the page (I haven’t counted/checked the entire page so I don’t know). Does the plugin insert this automatically or do you have to code it manually?
NOTE: I’ve put spaces after the opening tags.
< span name='KonaFilter'>
< div class="navigation">
< div class="alignleft">« < a href="http://www.todaysgizmos.com/?p=27" rel="nofollow" rel="nofollow">Safe Alternative to Teflon Pans< /a>< /div>
< div class="alignright">< /div>
< /div>
< div class="post" id="post-28">
< h2>< a href="http://www.todaysgizmos.com/?p=28" rel="bookmark" title="Permanent Link: $197 HD DVD Players at Last!" rel="nofollow" rel="nofollow">$197 HD DVD Players at Last!< /a>< /h2>
< div class="entrytext">
< p>< span name="Konabody">< /p>
Also, did you mean to have your links as “nofollow” links or is that just for SEO on the archive and category pages?

Yay! someone who answers questions! (Some of the themes are only connected to advertisements.
A few questions:
– Can you tell me how to make the background go all the way down the page? Right now it stops when the sidebar ends.
–Is there a way to close the gap between the footer and background on a single post (same question as above I guess, just a different width).
–longer question, but not being a theme-maker I don’t know how much work it is, Do yo know how to make “page tabs”?
Thanks for a neat theme.

Can’t remember if I already asked this question:
Is there a way to fill in the gap between the background and the footer?
Especially for long comments and the front page text gets absolutely lost in the background.
–Thanks

Dude. That’s embarrassing. #5 wasn’t up when I wrote #6, and now I feel a need to vindicate myself with #7.
*sigh*
But… any answers?

Hi Amy Jane. Sorry for the delay in answering. We’ve been busy moving house and doing the “Christmas thing”.
I’m unable to replicate your problem with a clean install of Chirp so I can only think that it may have been something that you’ve done to the sidebar.php. Possibly an extra closing tag (or even one that may have been accidently deleted?) If you have some spare time I would definitely recommend going through your sidebar.php file and checking it against a clean sidebar.php file to see if there are any added or missing tags.
To shorten the height of the footer text you’ll need to edit the footer height in the stylesheet. This will, unfortunately crop the image though so you might not want to do that. It might even have something to do with the above problem so I would sort that out first.
I’m not sure what you mean by “page tabs”?
If I have a moment I will try to look through your sidebar.php code to see if anything stands out. I do feel sure that the problem lies in that file though.

Thanks for your response. I fiddled around and all the problems go away when I remove the widgets. And I need widgets…
I even upgraded to the current incarnation of WP and re-loaded a fresh sidebar from file, and that’s still the case (actually, several of the themes I experimented with didn’t have complete backgrounds when I used widgets).
I haven’t played with code at all… seems to be the widgets (sounds like a star trek episode or something…)
Switching themes until I have time to figure out how to fix that.

It was *one* widget screwing everything up– the textblock with my blogrings.
Now I’m an isolated snot with no connections, but at least my blog is pretty ;)

Hello.
I used your “Chirp” theme as the basis for a new design, which can be seen at http://alge.anart.no/blogs/
As you can see, I chose blue butterflies instead of the birds, and also removed the background image as well as trimmed down the borders. Kind of minimalistic but still has style. Also I like the Georgia font, it is easy to read on screen. Thank you.

Thank you, guys! Glad you like the theme. I like your changes, Luke. Those blue butterflies are beautiful! Good choice.

Is there a way to enable comments on pages?
Comment by Amy Jane (Untangling Tales) — Tuesday, April 1, 2008 @ 11:11 pm
Yeah, I think there is? Just make sure you have comments (and trackbacks if you want them) enabled on the page you want them to appear on. The check boxes are in the “Discussion” section on the sidebar when you’re writing/editing a page or blog post.
Comment by admin — Thursday, April 3, 2008 @ 3:40 am
The comments have been on (I double-checked), but no comment box or previous comments are available.
I’ve noticed other themes seem to just have comments available or not, my checking/unchecking the box couldn’t change the “nots”, and I can’t untangle why from the code.
Other ideas?

Comments have nothing to do with the theme though - they’re a Wordpress settings thing. If you have some posts that don’t have a comment box then that’s because the actual posts don’t have comments enabled (even if the application - Wordpress - has comments set to “on” as default).
What you need to do is go to each post that doesn’t have comments enabled and then enable them through the editor (under “Discussion” on the sidebar). Once you’ve done that then everything should be fine.
We’ve not changed anything to do with the comments code at all in the theme so I don’t know what else might be causing your problems.
