I bought this little fellow in a “five and dime” for 50 cents, just because I wanted a rubber ducky for our bathroom:

He’s pretty small, and I had to melt the cube of glycerine soap he was encased in, because I didn’t want to wait to float him in the bath. But alas, as soon as he hit the water, he fell sideways and bobbled around, helpless to free himself from his screwed-up center of gravity!! I didn’t mind though..he happily sits on the bar of soap on the windowsill surrounded by face wash and lavender shampoo and antique-looking bottles now, across from his friend the frog.
He was the best looking duck I found anyway. The others, of regular size, all had wacky scary eyes. Cept for the water temperature reading ones, and I don’t yet have a baby -which they call ‘bubs’ down unda- so I can’t justify spending that much mula yet.

I thought it was great the other day in the store when I noticed a three pack of looney-eyed rubber duckies of various sizes on an endcap (I worked in a grocery store for enough years to pick up some of the lingo!), and thought I might check it out. Before I did though, a 20something girl with a hand basket walked by casually, saw them and took less than 5 seconds to put them into the basket then continued shopping! YES!! That’s so cool. I am going to lobby for more ducks on endcaps. More, more, more!!

I’ll end with a quote from one of my sister’s preschool kids. Despite the other kids arguing fiercly, this little boy was adamant that his version of Ernie’s song was THE RIGHT ONE!!:

‘Rubber Ducky, you’re the one..you’re the best time of my life!!’

Seeing that girl pick up those ducks so quickly made me wonder if perhaps his song was the correct version after all? I think for a lot of people, it just may be…
