Four Seasons In One Day
Looking out the window this morning, I see a carpet of red, gold, green and yellow leaves on the back lawn, which I’ll be heading out to rake soon. The chill in the air is just fine with me, as I put on my sweater and curl my hands ’round the coffee cup. Winter is right on the heels of this Autumn, but there is no frost at the moment, so the Season of Fall has been firmly established, at least for today.
However, as I type up a quick to-do list on the computer and turn the radio on, I catch myself feeling a pang after recognizing the band on the radio singing that familiar refrain, “Everywhere you go you always take the weather with you..” I turn up the volume loud, then louder. The band, Crowded House, started out in Melbourne, and also sang knowingly about “Four Seasons In One Day”, the phenomenon in Melbourne, a city which has such transient weather patterns, that a day which starts out looking like a bleak rainy Winter could change to a Sunny Spring 10 minutes later, and everything in-between before the day is up.
I am very happy to be in Pennsylvania today. To have my health, to have shelter, to be reuniting with old friends, surrounded by loving family. I feel the push and pull of starting new ventures and wanting to hibernate (just a little). I am on the verge of some artistic projects which I’d put on the back burner. I do not regret coming back.
God, but today, I miss Melbourne like hell!

Have you thought of going back to visit one day?

It must be like having two completely different selves. Maybe a visit would be in order?

Oh, I definitely plan to visit again. Just not for a little while. Still getting back on my feet over here. But yeah, I’ve got too many good friends and favorite places there to stay away for too long. It’s a mighty expensive journey, but where there’s a will, there’s a way!
