If I’m a little too quiet in the coming days…

…it’s because I am wrapping up work on an important project!

My friend Sherry from my alma mater, Moore College of Art & Design, runs the (no name) Art Group, which raises money for good causes around the world, every year or so. This year, I am participating in the Memory Portrait project. Thirty-five artists are creating thirty-five portraits for orphaned children living in the El-Shadai Foster Home in Uganda, Africa. Sherry was concerned that she wouldn’t be able to find enough artists to sign up, but the spaces filled up quickly!

I am painting a portrait for a beautiful fourteen year old girl, Tabitha. I’ve had to practically drag myself away from the studio several times in the past week, because I’m enjoying working on this so much. I feel so honored and excited to be a part of it!

After the exhibition in Philadelphia, the portraits will be sent to the children, so that they can have a personal keepsake and memory of their childhood.
If you’d like to help out with fund-raising, or go to the exhibition in Philadelphia in September, where you can also buy art created by the children, check out the details about the home and the project here:

I’ll keep you posted, after I get the portrait posted! (I’m sending it a bit early, since it’s traveling from Melbourne to Philadelphia.)

A Way To Make Me Smile

Wednesday, June 27th, 2007

Hey there everybody!

Had to post this picture of our friend, Ken Stringfellow, and his sweet and stylish little daughter, Aden. I just think is picture is so beautiful and wanted people to see it! (Ken gave his O.K.) It just makes me smile.:

Hope everyone is well.

Family, I’ll be calling sometime soon. Let me know if there’s a good time.
Going to the hospital w/ Cam tomorrow to see when he’ll need the surgery. He’s been feeling fine, though.

Update: June 28, 2007
Cam’s on the waiting list for surgery. Should be 2 or 3 months till he’s booked in. Thanks for all the support and concern.
We’re both doing pretty well, despite the recent events!

Celebrating Siblings

listening to: Gwen Stefani

On the 25th, our family had a nice evening celebrating my younger brother, Dan’s, birthday. Before everyone arrived, I strung small white lights up all across the dining room ceiling as well as no less than 3 “Happy Birthday” banners which I found in the closet, all in various stages of deterioration. Mom made homemade lasagna and garlic bread, and I helped with the salad. Allison and I also helped Mom with gift-wrapping, with me brilliantly ripping apart a brand new gift bag in the process.

Braving the winter weather, Kathy, Zach and Isaac arrived with the birthday cupcakes, which spelled out “Happy Birthday Dween Dween!” which is how Ike pronounces “Uncle Dan”. Kathy and I couldn’t have picked a better nickname for him if we tried…it’s priceless! We’re constantly sidling up to him with things like, “Hiya Dween Dween! How’s it going?”

We even suffered through a Genesis (his favorite band) CD at dinner time. Isaac even danced to it.. smile and all. Brave little soldier… we all know how hard that must have been for him.

Of course Zach was quick to point out that the intro to one of the songs sounded just like a buffalo dying, and that it also sounded like the CD was skipping because it kept repeating the same sound so many times.

Mom said, “You’d think Dan was turning 30 with all of this hoopla.” Except I don’t think she said “Hoopla”.
But, no, she didn’t swear, she just had another word for hoopla… most likely “hub-bub” or “hullaballoo”.

Sorry to tease you so much Dan. After all, it was a very fun night, lots of good food and drinks, and warm family laughter and love on a cold snowy January evening.

So, now that Dan’s Birthday is over….

. . .it’s time to think about Kaffy’s birthday…

Yeah, she figured it out eventually…

February 4th, Stooge…Rock!

Hats Off To Dan and Allison!

Well, it’s a little hard for me to believe that this little cowboy…

…is all growed-up, and has found the girl of his dreams, who’s already like one of the family! On the first day of 2007, came the news that they’re gettin’ hitched!

Congratulations, on your engagement, Dan and Allison. I’m so happy for you.

Much love to you both!
your big sis,
Amy
