listening to: the rain

This is my drawing of the “friendship ball” that my friend, Tammy, and I share.

It’s hollow silver, with little pierced decorations, a clasp, and has a maroon silk cord and tassle. I bought it one year for Christmas, with a little gift enclosed, and we’ve passed it back and forth, through the post or in person for several years now. We celebrate holidays, reunions, and special events through little gifts and tokens given to each other. We never have a set time or occassion to do it. It’s never expected and it might even be a year and a half before it re-emerges, but I’m so glad we’ve kept this tradition. We have others, but I thought I’d draw this one because it hangs above the entrance to my studio, always a reminder of her.So, as a form of friendship to the people whom I communicate with, day-to-day, through this form of online journal called a “blog”, I thought I’d post a “links” list on the sidebar over there . ——–>
Maybe you’d like to stop by some of them and check them out when you’ve got time?
There are other blogs I visit, but this handful is posted here, not because I plaster numerous comments on them (to the possible annoyance of people), but because I really like the talent, humor and thoughts of the characters who run each one! To anyone from my mother’s side, no I don’t think we’re related to Richard! However, Melissa is Cam’s wonderful niece and our friend.
A note to some other friends, Adrian and Daniel: We’ll call soon! Sorry we had to miss the latest show, but we’ll fill you in on our week, and why we couldn’t make it when we next talk.
For anyone in Melbourne, our friend Adrian directs this wonderful horror/sci fi movie caberet called “Movie Scream”. There are great b-grade movies on the screen, live music played to enhance the movies (a more modern version of organ music with silent films). The music has included African drummers and Adrian’s ace performance on the theramin- think high-pitched spooky noises, like the beach boys..haa haa. There is performance art, and interesting people, aliens, and gorillas to meet & share a drink and coversation with. Adrian’s done some shows for the Fringe Festival, and when he has some dates and venues to give me for his next shows, I’ll post em here!
Here’s the banner for the show (Adrian is on the right), and if you see it somewhere, do stop in for the experience!:
