I Still Call Australia Home

Wednesday, September 28th, 2005

Well, it’s been a wonderful five months here with the family, but now it’s back home to my husband and our pups, and friends & relations in Melbourne. Going from Autumn to Spring in a little over a day. Strange, but good. I don’t know when I’ll be over the jet lag, but I’ll return sometime soon to say hey and let everyone know what’s going on with me. Been saying goodbye to people.. on my birthday and today..and then again tomorrow afternoon. Whew..exhausting but exciting times. Sending my love out there to all you wonderful people who made my visit home so special. You know who you are!
Cameron, I’ll be seeing you soon! YAY!!

Flashback Sunday

Sunday, September 25th, 2005

Although this technically isn’t a flashback to a specific entry, the images are in two previous posts on this site. I was just reminded by an entry on Danny Gregory’s site of how fun it is to go out drawing in public.
I will have to do it again soon.
These three paintings are from drawings I did at an Irish pub in Philadelphia some years back. I’m also hankering to get out the acrylics again..but have to wait just a little while longer as they are back in Australia. Enjoy this flashback, as I take a break from drawing crappy photoshop images!:

Fair Warning: It's Gonna Get Hectic Up in Here!!

Doing laundry and packing some stuff today… blehhhh..So not in the mood for this. But it’s good to get it done as early as possible, because it’s going to be quite a hectic few days. Of course, that’ll most likely mean less posting on this here blog. Of course, I could be a shining example of excellent time management and post every day till Wed., ya never know!

We’re getting up pretty early to drive to Philadelphia tomorrow. I’ve been practicing my speech for the memorial, but I’m still a bit nervous.
I’m also a little on-edge thinking about all the plane changes and lay-overs on Wed., but I should be fine.

So much to do and so many people to visit with, before a long day of flying and then jet lag afterwards. Gee, I sound positive, don’t I?! I think it’s due to the fact that I haven’t been walking much the past couple of days. I’m gonna try and squeeze a walk in when its a bit cooler this evening.

Don’t know how many entries I’ll be doing till next week, but when I’m good and ready, I’ll do them. Oh well, back to packing….

Total Avoidance Day

Thursday, September 22nd, 2005

For all that I accomplished yesterday, I made up for today by not doing anything on my list.
Well, I got my haircut, but that was about it.
I could list all the stuff I DIDN’T get done, but instead I think I’ll save that stuff and put it on my “accomplished” list tomorrow, for a more positive spin.

I’ll focus on the fact that it’s good to have a lazy day once in a while. Don’t you agree?

On my way back from the hairdressers, I saw this view and commited it to memory:

dusk1 (22k image)

Just a really lovely view, with one bright star in plain view. I didn’t wish on it, but didn’t feel a deep need to wish for anything right now. Feeling pretty content today.

Here’s a little poetry…it’s been a while since I’ve written any:

Sweet Summer Night

The languid summer evening
Melts into sultry summer night.
An early evening star
Shows a speckle of bright light.

Dusky shadows creep stealthily
Over rock and tree and hill,
They tell me a tale of a wistful wish
Of more nights so deep and still.

The moon hangs high
The treetops sigh
The birds have said goodbye
The summer time will soon be gone,
Autumn is drawing nigh.

If wishing on the solitary star
Brings glorious treasures to me,
It shall not replace the beauty and grace
Of this summer night’s sweet memory.
