Listening to this album reminds me that I’ve never written about the “Ken Stringfellow Project” on this here blog. That’s a story for another day, but for now I’ll give an encapsulation of what it was: In late 2000, Cameron and I and 4 others were involved in an international online project designing and constructing a custom-made guitar for Ken, member of the band the Posies, keyboard player for R.E.M. and very kewel guy! It was great fun and quite exciting, so if I don’t tell about it soon, remind me!
This album is beautiful..I haven’t listened to it since the beginning of the year since I’d left it behind for Cameron when I went to the States. Good to hear it again.
Well, having been so productive just a few days ago, I proceeded to rest on my laurels and have been a lazy bum and feeling guilty for it, too. I vow to get back on track tomorrow! It’s not like there’s a lack of things to do…I just didn’t have any ambition. Well, until tonight. I finally drew 2 more chairs:

Only six more till I reach my goal of 30. And I want to wrap them up soon, because November is Art Every Day month, and the chair series was last year’s project, believe it or not! I gave up mid-way and only got around to finishing it this year. I have a habit of leaving things half-finished, so it feels good to be so near the end of this series. We’ll see if I can’t do better this year!
Here in the Miller household we’ve got a list of Spring/Summer projects to work on. One of which we completed today.
In this cottage in with brick floors and pups in a country setting, a nice clean fabric bathmat just isn’t practical. It gets dirty long before it would in a normal house. (Even with hanging it up on the tub after each use.) So, last summer I decided we needed a different kind of mat. Now we have one! YAY! …I’ve yet to try it out, but I’m planning to do that later this evening.
It was good to get back into working on a project together; planing the wood, drilling and screwing things together. Granted, Cam did most of it, but I did help with all aspects, including doing some of the chamfering of edges with a plane:

Cam did his planing at more than twice my speed, of course:

We ended up with a whole nice bunch of splendid wood curlycues!! Fun!:

And the final product looks just great!:

Can’t wait to try it out!
I also got some other things done today, including jobsearching stuff, taking a 20 minute walk, and a bit of decluttering. Rather productive. It was good to talk to Janine on Instant Messenger too. Now it’s time to think about dinner..mmm, schnitzel, no noodles though. I may, or may not, be back later with drawings. Got up pretty early this morning so I’ve a feeling I’m headed to bed early too.
Well, I did one drawing at least. I feel I accomplished something, even if it’s not all that I set as a goal. It takes much discipline for me to get back into the habit of daily drawing after such a long break, but I determined to do it. Even if it’s one day and one drawing at a time:

Had a good talk with the family on the phone today. Poor Isaac was over-tired and was crying at the time. He just loves playing so much that he doesn’t want to go to sleep! Got to talk to Mom, Kathy and Dan and fill them in on all that I’ve been up to, which, admittedly isn’t a whole lot yet. In some ways I feel like I haven’t been here very long, but Kathy reminded me that it’s been almost a month..well, minus a week. ;-)
Didn’t get a walk in today. It was quite windy, damp, and dreary most of the day. So instead, I had a nice bath with candles and incense lit, and had a cup of chamomile tea and orange slices. Very relaxing! I’ll make sure to get my walk in tomorrow.
Now I’m off for a game of Rummikub with Cam, and then bed. Ahh, I’m ready for it! Tired as.
