HOT

Saturday, January 21st, 2006

‘Twas 99 degrees (or higher?) today, so I did “something nice” for myself, as suggested for a daily routine in week 3, and didn’t do any kind of physical activity or cooking. We had sandwiches for dinner, sat in front of the fan, bathed the dogs in cool water, and when the power went out from a daytime storm, we played three games of Rummikub. Ate raw veggies, and fruit salad.
Usually in the heat this house is pretty cool, due to bluestone walls and high ceilings, but after a few days of heat, it can get a little uncomfortable. Luckily, a second storm blew through and we opened the doors and windows to let the cooler air flow in. It’s better now, but still warm-ish. The dishes can sit in the sink for the night! In a little while I’m off to do a writing task or two. Saw a tiny baby frog on the window tonight. So little! The frogs must have enjoyed the rain. We did too..hope we get some more! But, summer is most definitely here!

*Update* O, yes it is..at 104 degrees! Tomorrow is expected to be 103…oof.

Artist Date, Week 2: Bubble Bath (and some other stuff)

Friday, January 20th, 2006

Well, synchronicity strikes again, not only with the first Artist Date being exactly 9 Moons from the second; but I discovered something while browsing through photos today. A picture that was taken EXACTLY one year ago. On the 20th of January, 2005, I snapped this photo:

So, of course I grabbed the camera to record what I was doing on the 20th of January, 2006!:

Poured a bubble bath, a cold glass of ginger beer, lit candles and the rose incense that Cam gave me for my birthday, had pen and paper handy in case inspiration struck. Well, not only didn’t it strike, but I couldn’t WAIT to get out of that bath. I’m not sure what it was, maybe I left it till to late in the evening, maybe the water was too hot, the ginger beer a little too sweet or the music not quite what I was in the mood for…but c’est la vie!

I have actually been resisting everything this week. Just felt like I hadn’t done much to further my creativity. I hated the morning pages this week. I couldn’t wait to get through them and even skipped them entirely two different days. I hadn’t really “pushed” as I’d intended. For as eager and willing as I was to do the Artist Way last week, I was every bit as defiant this week. It caused me to feel kind of guilty and the creative monster of self-loathing came out a few times.

But, I found something positive when I reveiwed the week. I’d done the pages MOST days, 5 out of 7. I did the reading of the principles EVERY day. I did the affirmations after all the morning pages, did some tasks, such as the Life Pie and looking at where I spent my time, I took the time to do a couple of favourite things, such as photography and baking, and I had even done a few pieces of art…a big step forward from a couple of weeks ago!

Still, I’m glad to send Week 2 on it’s merry way!

Here are a few more pics from today. There was a storm rolling through Melbourne this afternoon, and as it passed, I looked out the window and saw the fields surrounding the house were a glorious golden color, washed in the red light of the sunset:

And, though it’s a bit hard to tell, there was a flock of white cockatoos flying by! It always looks so cool and I always wish I had a camera. This time I did!:

This is a picture of our (next door!) neighbour’s house:

Here’s to the closing of Week 2 and the launching of Week 3!! Cheers!

a quiet post

A few days ago I walked past Cam’s workshop and up on the second floor window brightly shone the moon, in a sea of dark clouds. I managed to snap a grainy picture of it right before a cloud swallowed it up. So, here you go, one hazy eerie moon from Australia!:

I should be back tomorrow with a more in-depth post of what’s been going on.
