Banner Parade

Wednesday, May 17th, 2006

Although I don’t always do it on a regular basis, one thing I enjoy about this blog is being able to come up with new banners. It gives the site a little boost when there is some fresh type and pictures heading the page. Sometimes the new banners are worked on for a-good-long-while and others seem to come together in no-time-at-all. I’ve got my favorites, of course.. the ones that look more professional, have good colors & balance and that are eye catching.

The other banners we’ll chalk up to the fact that there should always be some so-so ones to even things out. He he.
So, for those of you who are curious or want a reminder of what I’ve had up before, I bring you banners one through eight. If you’d like to see an old banner heading the page again sometime in the future just tell me which one! (I figure I’ll be changing the current one at the start of next month.)

Mother’s Day, Mad Libs Style!

Monday, May 15th, 2006

This is page from the daily calendar that my sister* gave to me. Happy Mother’s Day, Kathy!!:

It’s Mother’s Day! The most extreme day of the year! I bet your mother would like a new electric cowboy she could use to snog** her vegetables or clean the tuna in the laundry room.

**Aussie/English slang for “kiss”

He he he….have a very extreme Mother’s Day indeed!

*correction: that my sister’s friend, Christina, gave to me! They sent me some stuff in the same package, so I got a bit mixed up. Sorry about that, Sr. Chrissy.

The other night I was fixing lamb for dinner and did a double take, as I noticed a hot pink sticker on the wrapping. This is the latest advertising campaign for lamb, here in Australia. (Apologies to my vegetarian friends.)

It’s rather bizarre, but amusing anyway..

We’re out the door in a minute, to see the relations on this Mother’s Day weekend.

Mumsy, we’ll be calling you on your Sat. evening/night! (The card will be late, but it’s in the mail at least!) LOVE YOU!!! HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY!!

The Evolution of the Gingerbear

Sunday, May 7th, 2006

listening to: the footy

I found the missing link! Well, of ginger bears… (pretty much like gummi bears, but flavored with fresh spicy ginger.) These were the last five bears in the package and no, they’ve not been altered to protect identities, they actually looked like this:

Been taking more walks these days. With the wet weather, it feels more like early Spring. The ground is damp and the breeze is brisk, so it’s refreshing to take a 20 minute hike. I want to work up to some hour long walks eventually. There’s a nice gravel path along one of the roads, used by several people, to walk, ride bikes, and ride horses.

Speaking of horses, the ones that used to eat our lawn are not being boarded here any more so it’s either time to get a lawnmower or possibly even a couple of sheep! The yard is getting scraggly around the edges, but most of it is still short, so there’s time to do something about it before it gets to be knee-high! I’m not exaggerating either, it grows so fast in the rainy seasons.

We’ll just add that to our list of equipment/appliances that are needed/would be useful around here, including a washing machine and a chain saw. At least the purchase of the washing machine is within sight.

And I’m thinking about setting a drawing challenge for myself, something to do with drawing in my sketchbook rather than puttering around on photoshop. Working more on balance and routine now and things seem to be shaping up, little by little. I felt like hibernating when the weather starting turning cold, but I’m over that now. I’m ready to get back to the goals I was working on at the start of the year: creating more art, home improvements/cleaning, and being healthier in general. Time flies when you’re hibernating! It’s time for some changes!
