The Long Weekend
Wednesday, June 13th, 2007Whew… where to start? Well, to make a long story short, Cameron had what we thought might be heartburn on Thursday night, and when another day passed and the antacids didn’t do anything we booked it to the hospital at 1am on Friday night. Here in Australia it was the beginning of the holiday weekend (Queen’s Birthday) so we couldn’t have picked a busier time! I’ll just say there were some very colorful characters in the waiting room that night.
We were relieved after hours of waiting, tests, x-rays, etc. to learn that it was not heart problems, but pancreatitis. It can still be life threatening, so they kept him in the hospital till today (Tues.) and kept him on a special diet, did tests through the weekend and did an ultrasound this morning to determine if he will need surgery. We’ll find out the results later.
I’ve been back and forth to the hospital all weekend, thanks to family and friends, and am very ready for this coming weekend, when we can hopefully get a proper rest! Our friend, Wendy, has invited us to dinner on Saturday night, so that should be fun.
It was nice, once Cam wasn’t in pain anymore, to go in and eat lunch and dinner with him, watch some tv, or read books, and play games of rummikub and “Totally 80s trivial pursuit”, take walks and buy a couple of treats from the cafeteria. And even though it was for a serious reason, it was still nice to meet up with friends and chat at the hospital and the house.
I’ll write again another time, but I’m ready to get into a warm bed, watch David Letterman and settle down to sleep!
(I wish we could get Conan too, but I have to settle for clips of that on YouTube until we can get cable in this area.)
Cameron is feeling fine again, can eat regular meals, and doesn’t need pain meds at all. He’s very glad to be home and the dogs and I are so happy to have him back! It was rather quiet without him.
